There is really no substitute for personalization. There are many tools I use for tracking my weight loss, most of which you can use with an app (Google Fit, Body2go, etc.) but they have no direct effect on weight loss when compared to changing the foods your eating. I started using Nutritionist as a program, and it has provided me with important insights into what made a difference in my weight as well as other important things like how many calories I burned during each meal and which foods are good for my metabolism. But it isn’t the only tool out there, and I’ll update this post if I find another program that can give me the same insights.
When was your weight loss?
When I was 5.25 kg. I was fat, about 5 lbs, but very lucky. I had a loving, supportive, and happy family. My dad was pretty skinny, but never got on the scales. I had a good, healthy, but slightly unhealthy, diet. My mom had been in and out of the hospital for years. I had always been a little bit behind her but not so much since she came down with a heart condition.
When you’ve lost weight, what have you been eating?
I don’t know. I haven’t looked back since. At home, there is the pizza buffet on Saturday night and then lunch around 3pm at the diner for dinner. Dinner on the weekends, the family goes to dinner at the Italian restaurant I used to work at. It’s delicious. The food has stayed reasonably healthy. I’m just keeping it in mind as a starting point: don’t be in a state of denial where you can’t put the pieces together.
I just had a meal at Joe’s Kitchen in Arlington, VA, and a few months back I had a pizza for dinner at TGI Friday’s, too. I guess the best food is always to be open to the possibilities of food! I didn’t eat the crust because it was stale, and my husband did not. But the pizza was good and tasted delicious! I usually have a salad at dinner. Just don’t make it too complicated.
If you need a weight loss plan, I’ve included a few of my own. It has been extremely difficult for me to make any kind of progress without an overall plan and the support of family and friends who know what they want. I want it to be the same here.
