For that reason, we are going to take you through the top 9 best design software tools for designers everywhere in a series of interviews.
Today I am going to talk about Sketch from Adobe, which is an open source design tool from Adobe itself. Let’s not forget that there are many excellent design editors and even apps for other designers outside of Adobe such as Adobe XD, or even Apple’s Illustrator.
When you look at Photoshop in the last 5 years, it had grown far beyond where it was when I started in design 15 years ago. Adobe has been working overtime on Photoshop and in some projects, they’ve even made it great even though it’s open source.
This post is all about Sketch and how they’ve evolved since I got started in design. I’ll go over the design features and the reasons for using each one. And then I’ll talk about the features of the software I use and what it means to designers.
What is Sketch?
Sketch is an open source design tool. It contains over 10,000,000 colors and hundreds of thousands of patterns. It also has a strong emphasis on drag and drop. This makes it ideal for prototyping and collaboration.
Sketch, although being open source, is a bit more expensive than similar free alternatives. It has been a big problem in the past few years as Adobe has moved away from free offerings. Many of the projects that you could work on would cost a couple hundred dollars up front. With the recent changes with Adobe, it’s clear that they’re no longer concerned with these costs and have given away a lot of the good stuff in order to compete against commercial options.
Sketch is also great for building and creating art assets. Sketch’s drag and drop interface is very convenient and flexible, so you can make your own custom pieces.
