What colors were popular 1920s? – Flapper Dress 1920S Black

As I write this (Friday, December 5) I’m still unsure of what the colors of the 1930s were. If we go by the way the 1930s came out, it was about a 50/50 split between blues and grays, with a few more blue shades being added. There were definitely fewer browns, and more of a variety of reddish (somewhat more brown) shades.

A friend of mine who grew up in the ’80s was so shocked when he saw pictures of all those ’80s cars, trucks, and SUVs from that time that he was downright giddy. He had seen these cars several times in college, and knew nothing about why they had been created until I introduced him to the subject.

To my way of thinking, these cars had to be created to convey the essence of what it was like to be young in the ’80s. If we look at how these different eras came out, and compare the colors, there is a very interesting trend: When cars began using the chrome on their wheels, the first cars to have chrome were the early ’80s. As cars continued to use chrome, more orange was added and red became a predominant shade.

I am not so sure about the ’90s in my opinion. I guess we are looking at the years up thru the 80s (my opinion), and not the years before. As for the years after, it doesn’t look like there were much orange left after that. So who knows what colors we’ll get into the future.

As a matter of fact, my friend is actually working on an article about the ’80s that will cover the orange in more detail than I ever could.

There is a lot of information here regarding the different colors of ’80s cars, trucks, and SUVs, but we don’t have a good idea about what colors were used for other years.

A lot of people have wondered what colors were used in later years, and while there is an answer, it is not a complete one.

Back to the 1930s

“We all had a very dark color, like a dark charcoal grey, or a very bright gray”. So says one of the guys at the “H” dealership.

I’ve seen these colors used a lot in the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s, especially on older cars. They were mostly used on early ’40s cars, like a
