What furniture sells the most? – Woodworking Companies Logos

According to the 2017 survey, a good number of people were buying furniture online. One in ten people were buying furniture online, a substantial increase from last year’s 10 percent.

According to the survey, there was a slight decrease in the number of people who were buying in person versus buying the same products online. Over the past five years, the number of people visiting a local furniture store rose from 30 percent of the population, in 2016, to 37 percent in 2017.

“The average home-based shopper purchases more than a dozen items of furniture, ranging from bedding to refrigerators, in a week,” said Laura Koss, Director of the National Furniture Exchange. “And the furniture retailers know it.”

So what did people buy?

A surprising number of consumers bought furniture that’s “trending upward” or “upgrading.”

“Upcycle furniture” has become a buzzword among homeowners. Manufacturers have developed furniture that is trending upward and is now one of many trend furniture brands, such as Chippendale or G-Star.

But people also bought furniture that’s “trending down,” meaning the trend has started shifting downward. In these categories, the home market saw a decrease in people buying from the same store.

“The share of homes surveyed in the top 10 worst performing stores declined to 4 percent in 2017 from 6 percent in 2017. This was due to a decline in the average performance of stores in the top 10 worst performing stores,” Koss said.

Koss and National Furniture Exchange also found an increase in shoppers buying a larger number of online purchases.

“Among the biggest trend furniture brands, the top 10 trends showed a greater number of homes buying from a local retailer,” Koss said. “This reflects the increasing influence of regional specialty retailers. We expect this trend to continue in 2018.”

The report was conducted online and among 1,010 adults with a probability sample size of 1,011. Data on age group and housing condition were statistically weighted to reflect national distributions and are based on the 2000 U.S. Census population. The survey was conducted from Oct. 19-28, 2017, and included 1,005 surveys completed by a 4-day, live response method.
