You can get around without one if you do this:
Cut your table saw blade off and place it on the floor. Cut 1″ off the bottom of the blade so you can put the table saw blade on top of the blade. Lay your sawing piece on the floor, then set the sawing piece on top of the blade with the table saw blade at right angles to the sawing piece. Then place a pair of table saw legs (the one in this picture is 4″ by 4″. They are 4″ by 4″) on all 4 corners of your bed, the back wall and the front wall. This gives you plenty of space for your table, chair, and anything else you may be using it to work with.
The table top will also help you to see your work before you begin it.
It’s also a good idea to have your work space lighted at night, so you don’t have to worry about finding your table.
What tools do I need?
You’ll need the following to make your first table saw:
A table saw blade. You’ll also want the table saw seat so you can use it without moving or twisting your legs.

What will I do?
Cut your blade, set the table saw seat and then seat the table saw on your legs until the blade will be about 3″ above the top of your bed. Set the table saw tailstock, cut the blade, attach the table saw seat to the table saw with the table saw blade at right angles to the table saw blade, then seat the table saw and set the blade until the table saw blade is about 3″ above the top of your bed on the seat and the table saw tailstock.
