Most life coaching programs only work to attract clients with a particular skill. So, how do they get them?
You can’t.
Instead, you have to focus on building a platform where you can develop and maintain a relationship with the clients. What is the platform?
You don’t have to be a good trainer or coach, but you do have to:
· Grow
· Make a difference
· Create an environment for growth
· Be an expert on the area you coach (or create an area of expertise)
· Have good relationships
What is your most valuable skill?
Your job is to get your clients to want to come back. You work really hard to make sure that the process of getting them to want to come back is easy, painless, and fun.
That means everything you do has to be simple. Simple, easy, Painless and Fun. But it goes much deeper than that.
The other big thing a life coach must have is “personality,” or the ability to be empathetic, likable, and trustworthy. For example, you need to have a reputation as an excellent teacher because you know how to teach.
The biggest factor in growing their business is to create a strong foundation for creating relationships.
What do you do when your client needs help?
I don’t get into any business with clients. They do it themselves. But every client needs help and their life coach can help.
You can’t fix their problems, but you can give them the opportunity to take their problems into their own hands.
How do you deal with conflict?
I’m a firm believer in working within the “rules of engagement” to resolve things. This means that if one person is taking time off from work, the group can decide what to do after work.
Another idea is to have a time out when one person needs a break. A group can have a time out and discuss what they did, what they want to do, what they’re going to do after work, and what they should do.
I’m also a firm believer in setting a schedule for your group in case problems arise. If problems arise, a time out should be set in place to work together, get advice and talk about what will happen.
