There are two methods in which life coaches can actually gain access to the lives of their clients. The first method is to simply hire a life coach, and the other method is to invite the life coach to stay at the client’s place, where they can provide feedback on the client’s progress. Sometimes, these options are mutually beneficial. But sometimes they’re not. Here are a couple of common reasons why I don’t do either option.
You don’t trust a life coach.
There are two main reasons why I don’t believe a life coach is a legitimate option. The first one is the fact that a lot of people are suspicious of life coaches. You may think that the coach has a negative and biased perspective on a client, which you find distasteful. But that shouldn’t happen.
Life coaching can be a good experience for an individual and in many cases can be the best for a client. But the first rule is that you cannot just hire a life coach for free.
One of the ways to ensure that your client’s life is being improved is to pay for the professional services of a life coach, such as attending seminars, being a client, or even giving your client a personal call about a problem he or she is currently struggling with. If your client is a good person, this is your chance to prove that life coaching is actually a legit and effective way to improve your client’s life.
Another way is to pay your life coach, and your life coach is your client’s life trainer. If you trust a life coach, there is nothing wrong with you saying that: “I trust your experience. I also trust it will be effective in improving my client’s life.”
But most people would not agree to that, for a variety of reasons. It’s also a good idea to ask yourself if you’re willing to give up some control for the sake of a life coach. A life coach is free to do whatever he or she feels like doing; that doesn’t mean that you have to be willing to just let them run around and improve people’s lives as they wish.
You don’t have someone available to talk with.
The most common reason why I don’t do a life coach is simply because I had a life coach once in my past (and he was not a life coach). In that experience, his or her approach was not really suitable for me, because we were different people (in that case he had less of a point).
