I remember going to a mall in my hometown in New Jersey when I was a freshman, and there was this huge, yellow T-shirt emblazoned with these huge white flowers. I thought, “Hmm, that’s cute.” But, I was also wondering a lot at the time, “Am I in my 20s?” I’d been dating a guy who didn’t really like me and had a lot of issues with his ex-wife, and he wanted to get rid of the kid. So, I was going up there to the mall, just checking out the clothes in the stores — and I remember being very struck by how many flapper dresses were available, as if they were going to be put on, rather than being worn.
Did you buy a pair of flapper dresses, or did you find something else?
[Laughs awkwardly] Yeah — it was not at all clear to me — I mean, these were flannels rather than dresses, but they were flannels.
So you bought something you didn’t wear in real life?
Yeah, I didn’t even know that I hadn’t had that. It was the same flannels, it was the same flannel fabric and the same buttons on them.
After taking a step back from his recent role as a commentator for the UFC, former middleweight champion Anderson Silva has taken on a new challenge while also participating in his official MMA charity event, MMAjunkie’s “Fight of the Night” on Saturday, Oct. 13 at The Venetian Las Vegas.
Silva (33-3 MMA, 13-3 UFC) is part of the “Fight of the Night” event, which will also feature the winner of a light heavyweight clash between Fabricio Werdum (16-2 MMA, 8-1 UFC) of Brazil and Matt Mitrione (24-9 MMA, 13-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC). UFC officials now say the fight between “The Spider” and “The Iron” will headline UFC Fight Night 107.
After receiving a $1 million donation from the UFC, Silva made his pro MMA debut on August 5 at the UFC Fight Night 47 event in Australia when he won a TKO of Tim Kennedy. Over the past year, Silva has traveled the world as a commentator for the UFC. There, he also served as a referee for all events in Europe and North America.
