The 1920s also gave birth to the female breast. Back then, they didn’t cover it, but they certainly did have a sense of individuality and individual beauty. A few years ago this year, my friend Sean and I decided to get a motorcycle (and we love motorcycles). Sean has recently done his first motorcycle rally and he asked me about the next step. So, we sat around and watched the whole thing unfold.
There was no time to do much more than read the manual, but in the interim, we did what we all do. We put together a list of our ideas. It was a list of things on which our friend could use a bike…and his motorbike had exactly the right set of specs to give those things a fighting chance. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the issue of violence against women in film.
While I’ve only witnessed it the last few years, I believe that for the last century, women, like men, have been in a constant state of aggression towards one another.
With the advent of the feminist movement of the 1960’s, we saw the emergence of the American movie, the cinema, the media and all manner of entertainment that glorified violence against women, but with one exception, every film ever made since… has included violence against women.
While all of this could be considered a tragedy, I have also found the phenomenon to be a blessing, a boon to the film industry. I believe the reason for this is simple: I believe that the male/female disparity is a societal issue and one that has taken a backseat to societal issues.
I believe that the best way to truly empower our women in to become successful in the world, is to help them understand that you can do it the old fashioned way and the safe way without the threat of death,
