CALGARY, AB — The Calgary Flames announced today that they have acquired a third round selection in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for forward Matt Stajan and a fourth round selection in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for forward Adam Fox.
The 24 year-old Stajan, who has played in all 64 games for the Flames over the past two seasons, recorded 24 goals and 40 points during his NHL career with Calgary, including 11 points (5G, 10A) during his career-high 48 games with the Oilers in 2015. The 6’1, 196lb forward has also recorded 19 goals and 47 assists over 196 career AHL games with Houston of the American Hockey League following four stints with the Flames, including a career high 35-goal campaign in 2009-10.
The 22 year-old Fox, is in the midst of his second-straight season with the Calgary Flames, and led the team in goals last season with 35.
“We are thrilled to move on from Matt,” said Flames GM Brad Treliving. “He gave us a big boost last season when he became an important part of the club moving forward, both offensively and defensively. We can’t wait to get him in a Calgary uniform and start the challenging season off with a bang.”
Fox, who has played in just two NHL games in the last four seasons, scored the game winner against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Edmonton last season to break a 6,000-point rookie record. The 6-4, 220 lb forward has three seasons of pro experience currently with the Edmonton Oil Kings.
“I am excited and am looking forward to playing for my hometown,” Fox said. “The Flames organization has great respect for my work ethic and I am looking forward to continuing to grow and develop as a player.”
