The Trump administration just rolled out yet another round of anti-immigrant and anti-refugee measures, with three new executive orders, one of which would suspend all refugee admissions for 120 days. The administration also announced that the U.S. will stop accepting Syrian refugees, and is planning another ban on citizens of seven Muslim-majority nations from entering the U.S. for at least 90 days, according to NBC News.
The move makes this year the first since the government began accepting refugees in the spring of 2015. The policy is sure to inflame already angry citizens of a handful of Muslim–majority countries, as people may soon notice the change in the new arrivals.
President Obama halted his refugee program in 2011, and the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program has taken a hit in recent years due to high numbers of refugee applications, which have hit an all-time high of nearly 3,000 in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30.
The Associated Press reports that the U.S. is also planning a “temporary ban” on residents from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S. for 90 days, beginning at the beginning of next month.
The new restrictions are even harsher, to the point of barring citizens of six major U.S. Muslim–majority countries from entering the country after March 15. The U.S. is already working to expand the list of banned countries to include Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen and Sudan as well.
