I wouldn’t be completely sold on the WAG argument, but again, here are the costs of a human, robot and Martian mission:

Human cost: $150 million – including an astronaut

Robot cost: $350,000 – including a rover and an astronaut

Martian cost: $150 million

The rover is the cheapest and the simplest option, while WAG is the most expensive option. There are various ways to build a WAG, depending on how quickly a mission might succeed (see below), how complicated a mission is, how difficult a landing will be (more complicated missions require more expensive options), and how much of a threat Mars poses to Earth.

There are also different ways to use the lander:
