The first stage of a project to construct a replica of Noah’s Ark has been halted because of heavy floodwaters.
The work, which would have taken two to three years to complete and cost about 20 million euros, was to have involved building a giant replica of the ark with a wooden bow at a depth of 6 metres (20 feet).
It is believed the ark would have been able withstand a wave surge of up to 15 metres (50 feet), which has forced its team of 25 to abandon the job.
The team hopes to complete the ark by 30 October this year, but the project has been delayed because of fears of a flood.
“The ark is in danger, so our team has been put on break so the project can be resumed,” said Frank Van der Merwe, a spokesman for the project.
“Unfortunately, unfortunately it’s been suspended.”
The ark would have been used to transport the passengers to the ark when Noah’s Ark sank.
But flooding in the Netherlands have halted plans to build the Ark.
