Ladies wore a number of things over the course of the 1920s – and it didn’t always make for the best of looks. One of the better things to look out for was how things were packaged – how the clothes were put on and what the material was. It doesn’t mean that a woman could not have an opinion on the clothing; but it did mean that the clothing was not what you would expect a lady to wear while working in a home for the elderly (which I think was often the case at the time) – which meant that it was probably not the best option for everyday wear.
Women had a number of choices for dressing up when they were with their beloved family and friends. Here I look at some of those items (which are just a sample from a far larger selection of choices available, so if you didn’t get to the website, you might think those things are some specific item) and where you could get them.
Bras – a range of things could be ordered under the “brioche” (or bannette) category. You could get dresses, a short with a plunging neckline, corsets, long and short skirts, coats and tops.
Shoes – from ankle high heel boots to high heel walking boots, the range of footwear allowed for a wide variety of styles.
Outfits

The sweater above is from an inexpensive, single colour store called White’s in London. It was a black, single-layer sweater with a gingham lining, a slit neckline and buttons on the collar. At the neck it had small cuffs and a button on the front so that it would pop open when the hand reached up.
