What is it for? What makes it special? What should a beginner paint kit be made of?
There are 2 different types of paint Krylon Fusion paint.
1. Dye Tungsten (DT) paint
DT paint is made from Tungsten. This makes it ideal for use in industrial applications. DT paints are a colorless and highly volatile black powder with a very good gloss and longevity. DT paints and paints like it are considered the first choice for a hobbyist because they are extremely resistant to rust and corrosion. DT is a popular choice as a base material for most hobby paints and paints sold off the shelf from many online manufacturers have DT paint added to the paint to increase the gloss. DT paints are most commonly used as an adhesion product for many paints, but should not be mistaken for a paint for automotive applications. DT paint works, as intended, on paints, so it should be used sparingly in these situations.
If you don’t know how to use DT paint, here are a few basic tools you will need with DT paint.
1. Water/waterproof paint tube
2. Paintbrush or sponge
3. Dye transfer tube
4. Tape
The paint tube has a narrow tube that the paint, or pigment is pumped through. Once pumped through the tube, it is ready to be used. However, the tube itself holds only so much pigment. In order for the pigment to be taken up, the dye transfer tube has to be pushed firmly against the pigment’s surface. This allows the dye to enter the pigment with sufficient force to make contact with the pigment.
Some paints must be added to a tube. For example, paint such as Krylon White has to be added to a paint tube, as it is water-based. You’ll also need water to paint a painting. You can add water to the dye transfer tube, but if you don’t have any extra, you can use paint to mix the water and dye. For most people, a bottle of water should be enough, but if the paint you’re working with is more expensive, consider buying a bottle of water to add to the dye. Be sure to add enough water so the dye stays under the paint until the coat is completely dry, or else it will get trapped in the paint.
